Licking County: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is stepping up this week. They’re opening a warming center to help folks stay safe from the cold.

The church will welcome people starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. They’ll keep things running overnight until 9:30 a.m. the next day. Plus, their regular drop-in hours are still on from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Licking Memorial Health Systems is pitching in too, providing meals in the evenings and breakfast at the church located at 592 W. Main St.

If you need a ride, Licking County Transit is offering free transportation to the church. A van will be making rounds from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at several spots, including the Salvation Army and Walmart.

This initiative comes from the Licking County Emergency Warming Center Task Force, which includes various community groups. They opened the church last week when the snow and cold hit central Ohio hard.

The National Weather Service is warning that temperatures will drop this week, with highs only reaching 19 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. Nighttime lows could dip to around 6 degrees, but warmer days are expected later in the week.

Expect mostly cloudy skies with some sun peeking through. There’s also a chance of rain Friday night into Saturday, and maybe some snow on Sunday.
