The CEO class at Whiteside Area Career Center is hosting a fun Bogus Bingo fundraiser to support student businesses
The event kicks off at 6:03 p.m. on February 13 at the Dixon Elks Lodge. Attendees can expect dinner and some icebreaker bingo before diving into themed rounds. Emily Zimmerman, the WACC CEO Facilitator, shared that it’ll be a mix of classic bingo and fun themes like music through the years and trivia.
Tickets are priced at $34.59 each, and all proceeds will help students fund their individual businesses, which they’ll showcase at a trade show in April. Zimmerman loves the CEO program because it supports young entrepreneurs while providing a fun night out.
The CEO program is a hands-on course for high school juniors and seniors at WACC member schools. Students learn from guest speakers, visit local businesses, and even start their own ventures. Zimmerman mentioned how impressive the students are, often leaving seasoned CEOs feeling a bit intimidated.
Initially, the students wanted to host a casino night, but since they’re all under 21, they had to pivot. They were bummed but decided to keep the game aspect alive with Bogus Bingo. The quirky name adds to the fun, and everything from the odd start time to the ticket price is meant to be silly.
Their goal is to raise at least $7,500, which will help each student kickstart their business. They’ll showcase their projects at a trade show on April 23 and 24 at Northland Mall in Sterling. For more info, check out the WACC CEO program website or email Emily directly.
