Pueblo: This week, temperatures might hit the low 50s, but don’t let the sunshine fool you. Mark Wankowski, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, warns that it’s going to get really cold.

He mentioned that we could see some of the coldest weather of the year this weekend. Overnight lows might drop to single digits, both above and below zero. For Saturday, the forecast shows a low of around 2 degrees.

Snow is also on the way, with a 50% chance of snowfall on Friday night when temperatures will be around 14 degrees. Wankowski explained that while it will be cold, the snow will be light and fluffy, which means it can accumulate but will be easy to brush off.

Wind chill values could make it feel even colder, ranging from 0 to 10 degrees on Tuesday, which is expected to be sunny with a high of about 39. Thursday will be the warmest day, reaching around 51 degrees.

When driving in these conditions, the Colorado Department of Transportation suggests taking extra time to clear your vehicle of snow and ice. They recommend doing one action at a time, like accelerating or braking, to stay safe.

For those traveling in the snow, it’s smart to have an emergency kit with essentials like blankets, a flashlight, and a first aid kit. Other handy items include warm clothes, snacks, and a phone charger.

Stay safe out there, Pueblo!
