In a thrilling overtime finish, Stefan Noesen’s power-play goal led the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night in Newark.
Ondrej Palat and Jack Hughes also found the net for New Jersey, which had been struggling on the road before this game. Markstrom is having a great first season with the Devils, now sitting at 21-8-3.
Noesen’s goal came just over three minutes into overtime, taking advantage of a penalty on Nick Paul. Jesper Bratt had a couple of assists, helping the Devils secure their sixth straight home win.
For Tampa Bay, Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov scored, but it wasn’t enough. Palat kicked things off with a goal in the first period, but Hedman quickly tied it up. Hughes then put the Devils ahead again in the second.
Kucherov managed to equalize in the third, but the Lightning couldn’t capitalize on their power plays. Markstrom made some key saves, especially against Brayden Point, keeping the Devils in the game.
The Devils are now 21-0-1 when leading after two periods, and Hughes is leading the team with 52 points. Next up, the Lightning will face the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Devils will host the Florida Panthers.
