Oswego: Andrew Pohlman is a tough cookie. He’s been playing with a mask for two years now after breaking his nose in basketball. He did it again this season, but he’s not letting that slow him down.

Pohlman joked about his situation, saying, “My mom and I were laughing that God ran out of injuries to give me.” He got hurt again while taking a charge against DePaul Prep, but his coach, Ryan Velasquez, knows how crucial he is to the team.

“He’s tenacious and brings that football mentality,” Velasquez said. “He’s a great leader.” Pohlman also played football as a standout safety and wide receiver. In the recent game against Oswego, he even switched jerseys after cutting his lip.

He scored eight points and grabbed ten rebounds, helping Oswego East win 60-46. They dominated the boards, out-rebounding Oswego 38-12. Pohlman emphasized the importance of doing the little things to win games.

Junior Mason Lockett led the team with 14 points, while Torrin Ross added nine. The game was tight early on, but Oswego struggled with free throws, missing 16, which hurt their chances.

Oswego East has been producing top talent for years, and Lockett is one of the best juniors around. Oswego also has a rising star in Ethan Vahl, who scored 14 points. Lockett noted that having talent on both sides makes the rivalry exciting.

Despite a big crowd, both teams are still developing. Oswego East has shown they can compete with top teams, while Oswego’s future looks bright with Vahl leading the way.
