Interim Superintendent Damen Cooper shared that they learned about a potential threat late Sunday. He quickly reached out to the Montclair Police Department for guidance.
Following police advice, all schools were closed until they could ensure safety. Cooper mentioned he couldn’t share specific details about the threat but assured everyone they were working closely with law enforcement.
By 9:30 a.m., he updated the community, saying the threat had been neutralized thanks to the police’s efforts. He acknowledged the anxiety this situation caused for everyone involved.
Montclair Mayor Renee Baskerville was also on top of things, staying in touch with school officials and the police. She reassured the community that there was no immediate danger.
She emphasized that the school closures were just a precaution. Montclair is located about 20 miles west of New York City.
Cooper concluded by stressing their commitment to the safety of students and staff, thanking everyone for their understanding during this time.
