Keller ISD is considering splitting the district, which could affect thousands of students, raising concerns among parents and board members.

Rumors about this split started buzzing on social media, and several board members confirmed that they’re looking into it. Fort Worth city councilman and Keller ISD parent Charlie Lauersdorf found out through a Facebook post.
He reached out to board members right away. Lauersdorf said, “I found out that they are exploring the possibility of a split, you know, nothing was set in stone.”
A board member confirmed on Facebook that they’re considering this move. Board president Charles Randklev mentioned that the district is facing tough challenges, like other districts that are closing schools and cutting programs.
He emphasized that they won’t just accept these challenges without a fight for their students and staff. However, some board members are worried about the lack of public discussion on this issue.
Joni Smith, a board member, expressed her concerns, saying she hadn’t even thought about splitting the district before. Chelsea Kelly echoed this sentiment, hoping for a more transparent process that includes community input.
Lauersdorf, who plans to attend the board meeting, said this decision could impact over 30,000 students. He’s curious about the financial implications for the district and taxpayers.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker also weighed in, stating she doesn’t support the split, emphasizing that every child deserves access to quality education. She believes this decision needs careful consideration.
