Cole Eiserman is proving his worth at Boston University, impressing fans and scouts alike with his scoring ability and determination.
Eiserman was a bit of a wildcard in the draft, known for his scoring but with some questions about his overall game. The Islanders took a chance on him, trusting both his talent and the coaching of Jay Pandolfo.
His roommate, Macklin Celebrini, has nothing but praise for him. Celebrini said, “He’s an unbelievable goal scorer. I had a lot of fun playing with him ’cause I knew if I got him the puck, he’d score.”
So far, Eiserman has lived up to that hype. In his first 18 games, he’s racked up 19 points, including a hat trick against Vermont. He also shined with Team USA, helping them win gold at the World Juniors.
Eiserman shared that he’s always focused on scoring. He knows opportunities can be limited in college hockey, so he prepares mentally to capitalize when they come.
He’s also working on adding more physicality to his game. At 6-foot and 200 pounds, he’s got the size, but he’s learning to battle harder in front of the net and along the boards.
Despite his success, he’s still adjusting to the college level. Being one of the youngest in his class, he might stick around at BU for another year or two before joining the Islanders.
Eiserman has been in touch with the Islanders’ development coaches, but they’re letting him focus on his game. The Terriers are in a tight race for the Hockey East title and are looking good for an NCAA Tournament spot.
He’s finding the competitive nature of college hockey a big change from his previous experiences. “Every team wants to win, all those points matter in every game,” he said. “You can never go into any game comfortable.”
