Flemington: So, there’s a boil water advisory in place for everyone in Flemington. This happened after a water main broke at Main and Church streets.

The state’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) says this advisory is sticking around until they give the all-clear. It’s not just Flemington residents affected; folks in Raritan Township who get their water from the Flemington system are in the same boat. But don’t worry, if you’re with New Jersey American Water, you’re good.

The break happened on Tuesday while they were working on a sewer, water, and road improvement project that started earlier this month. That project is set to take about five months.

The DEP mentioned that the damage might have caused a drop in water pressure, which could let some contaminants sneak in. They’re testing the water to make sure it’s safe for everyone.

In the meantime, they’re advising everyone to boil their water for at least a minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or even brushing your teeth. If you can, stick to bottled water for now and toss out any ice made after the break.

Restaurants are also being told to only sell pre-packaged food unless they can prove they’re following the DEP’s guidelines. As of Wednesday afternoon, there’s no word on when this advisory will be lifted. Stay safe out there!
