Concerns are rising in Chapel Hill over Bill Belichick’s coaching hires at UNC

Since taking the job a month ago, he’s kept Freddie Kitchens as offensive coordinator and brought in his son, Steve, as defensive coordinator. He also hired Matt Lombardi, Chris Jones, and Billy Miller for various roles.
But here’s the kicker: he hasn’t tapped into his coaching tree at all. No Matt Patricia or Joe Judge in sight, which has some people feeling uneasy. With a $10 million budget for staff, it feels a bit thin.
The athletic director and ACC president are reportedly worried that Belichick might be waiting for an NFL offer. If that’s the case, his contract has a $10 million buyout that drops to just $1 million in the second year.
This whole situation could mean a short stay for Belichick at UNC, especially since he’s close to breaking Don Shula’s all-time wins record. Recently, there were whispers about the Raiders reaching out to him, but that fizzled out.
And now, with the Cowboys job open after Mike McCarthy’s departure, who knows what could happen? For now, Belichick is gearing up for his first season, having snagged UConn star Pryce Yates as a transfer.
