Jeff Ulbrich has interviewed for the Falcons’ defensive coordinator role after a recent coaching shakeup in Atlanta

Atlanta: So, Jeff Ulbrich is keeping his options open. He just wrapped up an interview with the Falcons for their defensive coordinator spot. This happened on Wednesday.
At 47, Ulbrich has a solid history with the Falcons, having worked there in various defensive roles from 2015 to 2020. He even got promoted to defensive coordinator during the 2020 season when Raheem Morris was the interim head coach.
Speaking of Morris, he’s now the head coach after Arthur Smith was let go following the 2023 season. Ulbrich was the Jets’ defensive coordinator from 2021 until he stepped in as interim head coach for the last 12 games this season after Robert Saleh was fired in October.
This interview comes right after the Falcons made some big changes to their defensive staff, firing coordinator Jimmy Lake and line coach Jay Rodgers. Morris mentioned that these decisions were tough but necessary for the team’s future.
Atlanta’s defense struggled this season, ranking 23rd in both points and yards allowed per game. In contrast, Ulbrich’s defenses have been in the top five for yards allowed over the last three seasons. He even interviewed for the Jets head coaching job earlier this week.
Oh, and former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale also threw his hat in the ring for the Falcons’ DC position on Tuesday.
