Two adorable baby African penguins are thriving at Tanganyika Wildlife Park, soon ready to swim and explore their surroundings.

Kiana Lucero from the park mentioned that their fuzzy down will eventually shed, making way for waterproof feathers. Once that happens, these little guys will be ready to take their first swim.
Six chicks hatched at the end of 2024, but we still don’t know if they’re boys or girls. They’ll figure that out with some blood tests, and then they can finally name them.
By the way, did you hear about Wichita getting its own Monopoly game? Pretty cool, right?
Kiana also shared that these African penguins gain about 10% of their body weight every day until they’re fully grown. They’re pretty impressive creatures, diving deep into the ocean to find food and holding their breath for over two minutes.
In the wild, you’d find them off the coast of South Africa, enjoying warm weather. Only a few penguin species can handle the cold.
Just a heads up, Tanganyika Wildlife Park is closed for the season but will reopen in March. In the meantime, you can still schedule meet-and-greets with some of the animals. How fun is that?
