Wichita: So, there’s been some drama in Wichita lately. The Ethics Board just confirmed that Mayor Lily Wu didn’t break any ethics rules. This came after both the mayor and Fire Union President Ted Bush challenged the board’s earlier decision.

Mayor Wu wanted the board to say there were no conflicting facts and to dismiss a recording where Fire Chief Tammy Snow claimed Wu told her to fire 42 firefighters. But the board didn’t go along with that. One member pointed out that Chief Snow’s statements during the investigation and in the recording didn’t match up.

Bush’s appeal really put the spotlight on the mayor, who called his complaint “frivolous.” He wanted that addressed, too. After the appeal, the board made it clear they don’t let the mayor’s social media posts sway their decisions.

Bush seemed relieved that they could move forward but mentioned that the situation with Chief Snow felt “unwell.” He questioned if it was healthy to keep going like this and suggested that he and the mayor should have a chat about it. He’s ready to build a better relationship with both the fire chief and the mayor.

He’s also calling for accountability from Chief Snow, who he believes has been pushing conflicting stories. Bush said everyone involved knows what’s going on, and he hopes they can all move past this.

There was also a mention of a letter from Mayor Wu’s lawyer that Bush received, which he felt was intimidating. He plans to share that letter through his attorney soon. The board didn’t discuss this concern since it wasn’t within the allowed time frame for appeals. KSN tried to get comments from Mayor Wu and Chief Snow but didn’t hear back.
