Charleston: Have you signed up for health insurance through the West Virginia Navigator program yet? If not, you’ve got until January 15 to get it done. Jeremy Smith, the program’s director, is here to help.

This program is all about offering free enrollment assistance to those who don’t have insurance. Right now, around 100,000 folks in West Virginia are uninsured, and that’s a risky situation. A sudden illness or accident can lead to huge hospital bills that can really mess up anyone’s budget.

Last week, despite the cold and snow, over 200 West Virginians showed up to sign up for Medicare and other plans during “Cover WV Day.” It’s a big event hosted by the Navigator program every year. Remember, January 15 is the last day to enroll for this year.

Smith emphasizes the importance of reaching out for help. You don’t even have to go anywhere; just call the WV Navigator Program at 304-356-5834 to get started. Make sure to have a list of your medications and the Social Security numbers and birth dates of everyone you want to enroll.

Smith understands that insurance costs can be a worry, especially in West Virginia where many families are struggling financially. But the good news is that 97% of West Virginians qualify for financial assistance based on their income. In fact, four out of five people looking to enroll can find a plan for $10 a month or even less.

While cost is a concern, people are also curious about how the new Trump administration might impact Medicare and the Affordable Care Act. Smith’s advice? Don’t miss out on this opportunity. He encourages everyone to get signed up and stay informed.
