District Heights: So, there’s this amazing story about a kid named John Pritchett. He’s just 14 and already making waves in boxing. His older brother, Anwar Wingate, was a big deal in the boxing scene until he was tragically shot two years ago. Anwar was known as “the silent assassin,” and now John is stepping up to carry on that legacy.

John started boxing when he was just six years old. He says it feels like therapy for him. When he’s in the gym, he can let everything out. He’s worked super hard and is now a three-time USA boxing champion, ranked number one in the country. Pretty impressive, right?

He often thinks about his brother while training. It motivates him to push harder. John remembers all those times they spent together in the gym, just having fun and hitting the bags. It’s like he feels Anwar’s presence with him every time he steps into the ring.

When he’s not training, John is actually coaching other boxers. His mom, Antionette, is really proud of him. She says he’s dedicated and puts in the work every day. Sure, he misses out on hanging out with friends, but she believes that the sacrifices he’s making will lead to great things.

John goes by “John the silent assassin Pritchett” in the boxing world, honoring his brother’s name. He’s got big dreams and wants to be one of the best boxers from the DMV area. He’s set to compete at the Golden Gloves on February 8 at Rosecroft Raceway. Can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!
