Inauguration security measures are ramping up due to freezing temperatures and recent threats
Washington D.C.: Security is getting a serious upgrade for the inauguration. With the weather turning cold, they’ve decided to move things indoors. This means more checkpoints and a bigger safety perimeter around the Capitol and Capital One Arena.
Just weeks after a terror attack in New Orleans, officials are taking no chances. Secret Service Agent Matt McCool reassured everyone that they’ve tightened security. He’s confident that no vehicles can breach their perimeter.
They’ve expanded the safety zone by three blocks, adding layers of fencing and concrete barriers. D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith wants to make sure visitors can still catch a glimpse of the motorcade while keeping everyone safe.
Intelligence agencies are on high alert for any credible threats, especially after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. McCool emphasized that they’ve learned from past mistakes and won’t let anything like that happen again.
With around 25,000 officers on duty, including 4,000 from other states, they’re ready for anything. Law enforcement is staying flexible to tackle any issues that might pop up.
