Drivers in Carlisle are urged to be cautious as icy conditions follow the coldest night of the year, impacting local roads.
Carlisle: So, it got super cold last night! Police are telling everyone to be careful on the roads because of ice. They really want drivers to adjust to the weather.
The temperature dropped to around minus eight degrees in Carlisle, and some spots in the Lake District hit minus 15! That’s seriously chilly, right?
Looks like this cold snap is sticking around for a bit, but things should warm up next week. Fingers crossed!
Several roads are closed due to snow and ice. The A595 is blocked from Hallthwaites to Holmrook, and Honister Pass is also shut. Hardknott Pass and Newlands Pass are closed too. It’s a bit of a mess out there.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said, “Please be aware ice may be affecting our county’s roads and ensure you drive to the road and weather conditions.”
They’ve got some tips for drivers: take your time defrosting your car, allow for extra travel time, and keep an eye on weather warnings. Oh, and watch your step outside; it could be slippery!
