A nurse in her 50s was critically injured after being stabbed with scissors at Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester
The police quickly arrested a 37-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Thankfully, they’re not looking for anyone else involved.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters mentioned that the police will be there to support the nurse’s family and colleagues during this tough time. He also said there would be more officers around to reassure the community.
Heather Caudle, the Chief Nursing Officer, expressed her shock and sadness over the incident. She emphasized that their focus is on supporting the injured nurse and her family.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting shared his thoughts on social media, highlighting that nurses should be able to work without fear of violence. He’s in touch with the hospital trust for updates.
The Royal College of Nursing’s leader also condemned the attack, stressing that nurses deserve to work safely. Local MP Jim McMahon expressed his shock and wished the nurse a full recovery.
