Edinburgh: Former First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, has announced that she and her husband, Peter Murrell, are separating. She shared the news on Instagram, saying they’ve decided to end their marriage.

Sturgeon and Murrell, who was the chief executive of the Scottish National Party, tied the knot in 2010. In her post, she mentioned that it was a tough decision but they had been living separately for a while.

She expressed that they still care for each other and will not be making any further comments on the matter. Sturgeon served as First Minister from 2014 to 2023 but stepped down amid a scandal involving party finances.

Murrell was arrested later and faced charges in 2024 for allegedly misusing donations meant for the SNP. Sturgeon was also arrested in June 2023 but has denied any wrongdoing.

The police investigation, known as Operation Branchform, is looking into how £660,000 in donations was spent. A luxury campervan worth £110,000 was seized during this investigation, which was supposed to be used for the 2021 election campaign but never was due to Covid restrictions.
