A New London woman faces charges for performing unauthorized cosmetic procedures in her apartment, raising safety concerns.
The trouble started when a woman, claiming to be Rodriguez-Lopez’s ex-wife, reported her to the police. She shared videos showing Rodriguez-Lopez using needles and syringes on clients in risky areas like the neck and groin. One video even showed a metal rod being inserted into a woman’s upper groin, which raised major red flags.
Authorities found a bunch of medical equipment during a search of Rodriguez-Lopez’s home. They discovered machines and tools that are typically used in medical settings, along with various syringes and anesthesia bottles. It turns out she didn’t have any licenses to perform these procedures or run a business from her home.
When questioned, Rodriguez-Lopez claimed she had a background in cosmetology from her time in Ecuador and Spain. She admitted to doing massages and facials but insisted she only performed lipolysis once on a friend. Despite knowing she was operating illegally, she continued her practices until the police intervened.
Rodriguez-Lopez was arraigned and is currently out on a promise to appear in court. Her lawyer has chosen not to comment on the case. If anyone has concerns about medical practitioners, they’re encouraged to check the state’s licensing website for more information.
