A dramatic walkout in Minnesota’s state House disrupts the session as tensions rise over power-sharing agreements
Minneapolis: So, there’s been quite a stir in Minnesota lately. The state House is in chaos after Democratic lawmakers decided to walk out on the first day of the session. They’re really pushing back against a power-sharing deal that’s been brewing.
Even though the Secretary of State said there wasn’t enough of a quorum to get things rolling, the Republicans went ahead and elected a new House speaker anyway. It looks like this is going to end up in court, which is just wild.
Meanwhile, down in Texas, there was some drama too. A far-right group wanted to push their own candidate for speaker, but they didn’t get their way. Instead, they ended up with Dustin Burrows, who’s more of a traditional Republican, like the ones we’ve seen before.
In other news, Faiz Shakir, who’s been a regular on MSNBC, just jumped into the race for the Democratic National Committee chair. He’s worked with some big names like Nancy Pelosi and Bernie Sanders, so it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Over in Michigan, Aric Nesbitt is making waves as he kicks off his campaign for governor. He’s the first big Republican to throw his hat in the ring since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer can’t run again.
And let’s not forget about West Virginia, where Jim Justice is now the newest U.S. Senator. With him on board, the GOP is looking pretty strong with 52 members, and it’ll be 53 soon when Ohio fills a vacancy.
Lastly, in Tennessee, it seems like Sen. Marsha Blackburn is gearing up for a run for governor in 2026. The current governor, Bill Lee, can’t run again, so it’s all heating up in the Volunteer State.
