Bakersville: Months after Hurricane Helene, folks in western North Carolina are still dealing with the aftermath. Legal Aid of North Carolina is stepping in to help those struggling to get disaster recovery funds.

They’re hosting five free “disaster recovery clinics” in areas hit hard by the hurricane. Legal experts will be there to assist with everything from government aid to insurance claims.

Ashley Campbell, the CEO of Legal Aid of NC, mentioned that they’re ready to help with FEMA appeals, mortgage issues, and more. It’s all about providing support and expertise to those who need it most.

While walk-ins are welcome, they recommend signing up on their website to make things smoother. Here’s the schedule:

– January 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mitchell County DRC in Bakersville
– January 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sneed & Stearns Attorneys in Black Mountain
– February 1, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Henderson County DRC in Hendersonville
– February 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sneed & Stearns Attorneys in Black Mountain
– February 22, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Catawba River Lodge in Marion

So far, Legal Aid has opened over 450 cases related to the hurricane, and their services are free for those who qualify. It’s a great resource for anyone still feeling the impact of Helene.
