A mother expresses gratitude for her family’s safety after her home was destroyed in a wildfire while she was on vacation.
Altadena: A mom named Laura Camuglia-Byrnes, 56, is feeling grateful despite a tough situation. While she was on a trip to Joshua Tree National Park with her pets, wildfires broke out back home.
She got a message from her daughters saying they had to evacuate because flames were getting close. Laura quickly turned to TikTok to see what was happening.
To her shock, she found a video showing her house engulfed in flames. It was a devastating moment for her. Laura, a former business owner, said her entire town has been affected, and she lost everything.
Even with all that loss, she feels it’s a miracle that her family is safe. She said, “I can’t help but feel blessed that I was able to leave.”
Laura had been planning to move to Europe soon and took this trip to help her pets adjust to traveling. The night before she was set to return, she learned about the fires in her area.
When she saw the flames were just three miles away, she knew it was serious. Her daughters grabbed a few important items and left just in time.
Laura had lived in her home for 13 years with her daughters. Losing her photography work and memories is hard, but she keeps reminding herself that they are all alive.
She said, “I lost my entire body of work, but ultimately I am alive, my two kids are alive, and my ex-husband is alive.”
For Laura, the most important thing is that her family is safe, even as they face the aftermath of this tragedy.
