So, there’s this TikTok influencer named Andi, right? She’s known as @bestfindsbestie. She recently shared a wild story about her iPhone case getting covered in black mold after she took it into the shower.
In her video, she showed off her phone case, and it was pretty gross. The inside was all moldy! She usually brings her phone in for some shower karaoke, but the moisture really did a number on her silicone case.
People were shocked when they saw it. Some viewers were like, “Wait, you don’t clean your phone case?” It seems a lot of folks clean theirs regularly, so they’ve never had this issue.
Andi’s video got everyone talking. Some suggested putting the phone in a plastic bag or just getting a waterproof speaker instead. But a few admitted they’ve found mold in their cases too.
The Environmental Protection Agency says mold can grow almost anywhere and can be a health risk. Black mold, like what Andi found, usually pops up in damp places.
While it doesn’t always make you seriously sick, it can lead to fungal infections and make asthma worse. So, it’s a good idea to keep things dry and clean your phone’s surface regularly.
Apple recommends using a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe to clean your iPhone, but you’ve got to be careful not to let moisture get into any openings. And definitely skip the bleach or hydrogen peroxide!
