Cincinnati: GE Aerospace is making some big moves with a $9 million grant from JobsOhio. This funding will help them develop next-gen propulsion systems for commercial planes.

The cash will be used for new testing equipment at their headquarters in Cincinnati and at their Peebles site. They’re looking to create over 200 engineering jobs by the end of 2028.

Mohamed Ali, a senior VP at GE Aerospace, mentioned that innovation is key to meeting the needs of airplane manufacturers and airlines for more fuel-efficient engines. This grant is a step toward keeping them at the forefront of the aviation industry.

In 2024, GE Aerospace became its own public company, still based in Evendale. They also announced a hefty $650 million investment in their manufacturing sites and suppliers, with a chunk of that going to the Dayton area.

Currently, GE Aerospace employs about 1,400 people in the Dayton area, with sites in Vandalia, Beavercreek, and even on the University of Dayton campus. They have around 300 employees at the EPISCenter, which focuses on electrical power systems.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine highlighted that this funding will help GE Aerospace invest in cutting-edge technology and strengthen their presence in Ohio. He noted Ohio’s rich aviation history, dating back to the Wright brothers, and how GE Aerospace is building on that legacy.

JobsOhio President J.P. Nauseef added that Ohio is the birthplace of aviation and this investment will help develop more fuel-efficient engines for the future.

The company is also expanding its investments in Ohio, including the Services Technology Acceleration Center in Springdale, which focuses on aerospace inspection technologies.

They’re working on advanced engine designs and systems that can use sustainable aviation fuel. Plus, GE Aerospace plans to hire over 900 engineers globally in 2024, including positions in Ohio. Interested folks can check out invent.ge/engineering for more info.
