Metro Denver is set to experience a prolonged cold snap with frigid temperatures and significant snowfall this weekend
Denver: Metro Denver is gearing up for a serious cold snap. The National Weather Service says we’re looking at over 100 hours of below-freezing temps starting Friday evening.
This chilly blast kicks off around 5 p.m. Friday and could last until about 1 p.m. Wednesday, totaling around 115 hours. But, it’s still a bit uncertain if it’ll wrap up a day early.
During the day, we’ll see temps mostly above zero, but don’t expect much warmth—highs will be in the single digits or low teens. Saturday night is going to be especially cold, with sub-zero temps for several hours.
And it’s not just cold; we’re also in for some snow. Downtown Denver and the airport could see up to 6 inches of snow Friday night into Saturday morning. Other areas around the metro might get even more.
For instance, places like Arvada and Highlands Ranch could see up to 7 inches, while Golden might get up to 8 inches. So, if you’re out and about, be careful—Friday’s commute could get tricky with icy roads.
There’s also a chance of another inch of snow on Sunday, so keep that in mind. While you don’t have to stay indoors, it’s wise to limit your time outside during this freezing weather.
Long exposure can lead to frostbite or hypothermia, so bundle up! Wear warm, loose clothing and take breaks to warm up. And if you live in an older home, watch out for freezing pipes.
