Oklahoma braces for another cold snap with below-average temperatures and possible light snow this weekend

The forecast isn’t set in stone, but it looks like we could be in for some well-below-average temps and maybe a bit of light snow.
From January 19 to 23, there’s a solid chance—about 80 to 90%—that temperatures will drop below normal across Oklahoma and the central U.S.
Starting this weekend, Oklahoma City’s highs are taking a nosedive. We’re looking at a high of 61 on Friday, but by Saturday, it drops to 39, and then it plummets to 26 on Sunday and 25 on Monday.
According to the Climate Prediction Center, Oklahoma is in the “moderate risk” zone for much colder weather, with some areas possibly seeing temps 16 degrees below normal. For reference, the average temp in Oklahoma City around this time is about 38 degrees.
As for snow, some parts of Oklahoma might see light flurries this weekend. Late Saturday into Sunday, light snow could hit northwest, northern, and western Oklahoma.
There was talk of a heavy snow system moving in from the Rockies, but that risk has lessened, so it’s not a big worry anymore.
