Citibank customers faced fraud alerts and app access issues, causing frustration and confusion on social media.

The problems kicked off around 9 a.m. ET, with more complaints rolling in by the afternoon, according to Down Detector. Many folks took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Some said they couldn’t reach anyone in the bank’s fraud department and were locked out of their accounts on the mobile app. It seems mobile logins were the main issue, making up about 85% of the reports.
One customer tweeted, “How long am I not going to have access to my damn money @Citibank WTH?!! Why is the app down?!!” Another chimed in, “Is there something up @Citibank? Got notification I need to contact them, but I’ve been on hold for HOURS.”
Citibank responded to many of these posts, assuring customers they were aware of the problem and working on a fix. They promised to reach out once everything was sorted out.
In a statement to NBC News, the bank acknowledged they were facing some technical issues with the mobile app and were working quickly to resolve them. They suggested customers log in through Citi.com or call the number on their cards for help.
Citibank has around 200 million customer accounts worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
