DirecTV is rolling out a new sports-focused channel bundle in Chicago and other major cities
This bundle will feature 40 sports and broadcast channels. It’s set to roll out in 24 markets, including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area. You’ll also get your local ABC, NBC, and Fox channels.
Vince Torres, DirecTV’s chief marketing officer, mentioned they’ve been working on this for over a year. They wanted to know what viewers really wanted and then made deals with big names like Disney and Fox to get the right content.
The MySports bundle includes popular networks like ESPN, Fox Sports, and channels for major college conferences. You’ll also find channels for the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB. More local channels will be added as they finalize agreements.
However, CBS and Paramount channels aren’t part of this package right now. The bundle will also include some ad-supported channels from MyFree DirecTV. Plus, they plan to add ESPN+ and more direct-to-consumer channels later on.
This announcement comes right after Venu Sports, a joint venture involving Disney and others, decided not to move forward. Last September, DirecTV had a dispute with Disney over a new agreement, but they’ve since worked things out to offer smaller bundles.
Warner Bros. Discovery also announced a new agreement with DirecTV recently. They’re planning to launch more bundles in different genres soon.
According to a poll, 78% of sports viewers prefer smaller channel bundles. The MySports bundle starts at $49.99 a month for the first three months, which is a steal compared to their other packages that start at $86.99 for over 90 channels.
