Amazon is laying off around 200 employees in its Fashion and Fitness group, as revealed in internal messages.
These layoffs were mentioned in some internal messages that Business Insider got a hold of. It seems like the folks in San Diego, part of a team called F2, were among those affected.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the news, saying they’re always looking to adjust their team structures to keep things moving quickly for customers. They mentioned that these changes are tough but necessary.
Interestingly, this isn’t linked to Amazon’s decision to shut down their Try Before You Buy service. That’s the one where you could order clothes, try them on, and then decide if you wanted to keep them or send them back.
Amazon has been trying to break into the fashion scene for a while now, but it’s tricky. A lot of people want to try on clothes before buying, and returns can really eat into profits. It’s a tough market for online retailers.
