Brooklyn: Zellnor Myrie, a state senator, has raised enough cash to unlock over $2.3 million in public matching funds for his mayoral campaign. His team shared this exciting news in a memo.

Since kicking off his campaign in May 2024, Myrie has gathered $647,449 from more than 3,300 donors. This includes $301,981 from over 1,500 New York City residents, which helped him meet the requirements for matching funds.

His campaign expects to receive the matching funds from the Campaign Finance Board soon. Myrie’s spokeswoman, Monica Klein, highlighted the support from New Yorkers across all boroughs, emphasizing the desire for new leadership in the city.

As the Democratic primary approaches on June 24, Myrie’s fundraising efforts have slowed down recently. In the latest reporting period, he raised $183,489, which is less than what he collected earlier in the campaign.

In comparison, independent candidate Jim Walden raised $629,736 in the same timeframe. A Myrie adviser noted that the campaign was focused on meeting the matching fund thresholds during this period.

Before Myrie, only former City Comptroller Scott Stringer had qualified for matching funds, receiving $2 million in December. Other candidates, including Comptroller Brad Lander, have also met the requirements recently.

Meanwhile, Mayor Adams, despite meeting donation thresholds, was denied matching funds due to concerns over a federal corruption indictment. He has pleaded not guilty and plans to run for reelection regardless of the funding situation.
