A woman and her friend face manslaughter charges after her boyfriend was fatally struck by a vehicle in Harwinton last July

Logan Diaz-Lopardo, 21, was driving the car that struck Gangell, while 20-year-old Abbigale Whipple was a passenger. The police say this all started when Whipple texted Diaz-Lopardo, asking him to hurt Gangell after a fight.
Things escalated quickly. After a car show, Gangell blocked Whipple’s number, which led her to call Diaz-Lopardo for a ride. When she showed Gangell that Diaz-Lopardo was with her, he got angry.
The two men had a history of conflict, with threats exchanged before. Whipple claimed Gangell ran out in front of the car, but there are conflicting stories about what really happened.
When the crash occurred, Gangell was thrown about 70 feet and sadly died from his injuries. An autopsy confirmed it was a homicide.
Both women were injured in the crash and later spoke to detectives. Whipple’s messages revealed a toxic relationship with Gangell, filled with threats and anger.
Now, both Diaz-Lopardo and Whipple are facing serious charges, with hefty bonds set for their release. They’re expected to appear in court soon, and the community is left reeling from this tragic event.
