The trial of Jacob Spray begins as witnesses recount the chilling events leading to Jamie Wilson-Spray’s tragic death
Melissa Berry, a chef, was on the phone with Jamie Wilson-Spray for a job interview when everything changed. She described hearing Jamie scream, a sound she’ll never forget.
Jamie was just 25 and had so much ahead of her. She was close to finishing her master’s degree and dreamed of opening her own restaurant. Sadly, her life was cut short when she was found dead in her trailer.
Prosecutors say Jacob, her estranged husband, killed her out of jealousy after she asked for a divorce. He was upset about their breakup and had even gotten a tattoo of a broken heart.
But Jacob’s defense claims they had consensual sex that night, and other unknown DNA was found on Jamie. They argue that someone else could be responsible for her death.
Witnesses noticed Jacob’s anger leading up to Jamie’s death. He was constantly texting her and seemed distraught. Jamie even told her sister she wished he would leave her alone.
After Jamie ordered pizza, Melissa got worried when she couldn’t reach her. Police found Jamie’s trailer hot and her unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead.
Jacob later told his father he killed Jamie, but when police arrived, he tried to deflect blame. He even suggested she might have died from an overdose.
An autopsy revealed Jamie had been strangled and sexually assaulted. Jacob’s DNA was found on her neck, and other DNA linked to her dating partner was found on him.
The trial is still ongoing, and Jamie’s family believes Jacob is responsible. They felt it in their gut when they heard the news. If convicted, Jacob could face life in prison.
