Wichita Police Department secures $360,000 grant to tackle violent crime effectively

Eight departments and organizations in the state are sharing this money, which comes from the Federal Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program. A special board made up of various community members decides how the funds are used.
So, what will Wichita do with this money? They plan to roll out gun safety training, improve tech for officers to connect with mental health responders, and set up better response protocols. They’re also looking to create a high-risk team to assess domestic violence situations and implement community strategies based on public health models.
Plus, some of the funds will go towards checking how effective these programs are. Other recipients of the grant include the City of Parsons and the Marysville Police Department, among others. It’s a big step for Wichita and the state in addressing violence and making communities safer.
