Many Instagram users are surprised to find they are now following Trump’s account due to a recent transition.

Washington, DC: So, it turns out a lot of folks are suddenly following President Trump on Instagram, and they didn’t even mean to! This week, users started complaining about being auto-followed on Meta’s platforms.
A Meta spokesperson explained that when a new president takes office, their accounts get handed over, and that’s why people are seeing posts from @POTUS, @VP, and @FLOTUS. They clarified that no one was forced to follow these accounts, but it’s all part of the transition process.
When Trump was inaugurated, it marked the third time this has happened. The Obama administration had a similar situation back in 2016, where they talked about how the incoming team would take over the White House accounts.
They mentioned that while the new administration gets access to the usernames and followers, they start fresh with no content. The old posts are archived for everyone to see, which is pretty neat.
Now, posts from Biden and his team have moved to their own archive accounts, so you can still check them out. Meanwhile, political discussions have ramped up on Meta’s platforms, especially after Zuckerberg made some moves that seemed to cozy up to Trump.
He even donated a million bucks to Trump’s inauguration and was at the event in DC. Recently, Zuckerberg announced some policy changes, like getting rid of third-party fact-checking and shaking up his diversity programs.
He’s been vocal about celebrating a more aggressive culture, which has raised eyebrows among critics. It’s definitely an interesting time on social media!
