Barcelona: Feeling fed up with the chilly UK weather? You’re not alone. Many folks are escaping to sunnier spots, and some are even making it a permanent move.

Take Tom Hopcroft, a British designer who’s been soaking up the sun in Spain for six years. He’s convinced that life there is way better, even if it means earning less money.

Tom recently shared his thoughts on TikTok, saying that after living in Spain for over 2,374 days, he’s noticed a big difference in quality of life compared to other places he’s lived, like Australia and the Netherlands.

He loves how much you can enjoy in Spain without spending a dime. Plus, with more sunshine, there’s just more time to relax and enjoy life.

Tom mentioned he’d prefer to earn 30,000 Euros in Spain over 100,000 Euros in the UK or US. Why? Because there’s so much to do for free, and the cities are designed for people to enjoy the outdoors. The weather is a bonus, too!

He feels like there are more hours in the day to do things after work, whether it’s grabbing a drink with friends or working out in the park. That extra time is worth more than a bigger paycheck, in his opinion.

Wrapping up his video, Tom said he’d always choose more free time over more money. His TikTok post really struck a chord, racking up over 314,000 likes and tons of positive comments.

Many viewers agreed, with one saying, “Life is good when your city is walkable with good weather.” Another chimed in about the extra hours in the day being a game changer for quality of life.

However, not everyone was on board with Tom’s views. Some Spaniards pointed out that they struggle to make ends meet, with one asking where Tom found a 30k salary in Spain.

Another commenter shared their experience, saying Spain has been the toughest place to live, even with a decent salary.
