Trump’s inauguration is set for January 20, 2025, with events starting early in the day and a unique indoor ceremony.
Washington: The excitement for Trump’s inauguration is building up. The celebrations kicked off over the weekend and will really take off on Monday when he officially takes the oath of office.
On Monday morning, Trump will start his day with a prayer service at St. John’s Episcopal Church. After that, he’ll head to the White House for a traditional tea with the outgoing president and first lady.
At noon Eastern, Trump will be sworn in inside the Capitol Rotunda. This is a bit different since, for the first time in 40 years, the ceremony is moving indoors due to freezing temperatures. The last time this happened was back in 1985 for Ronald Reagan’s second term.
Trump’s inaugural committee has announced that he’ll take the oath on a family Bible given to him by his mother, along with the Bible used by Abraham Lincoln during his first inauguration. Vice President-elect JD Vance will also use a family Bible from his great-grandmother.
There’s a star-studded lineup for the inauguration events, with performances from Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, and even the Village People. Plus, some big names in business like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are expected to show up.
After the swearing-in, Trump will head to a signing ceremony at the Capitol to kick off his first official acts, followed by a congressional luncheon and a review of U.S. troops.
As for the Presidential Parade, it’s still on but will be hosted at Capital One Arena instead of the usual route. Trump plans to join the crowd there after taking the oath.
Inauguration Day is set for January 20, as established by the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This date was chosen to shorten the transition period, which used to be much longer.
So, mark your calendars! It’s going to be a big day in Washington.
