Leeds: You won’t believe the stuff people leave on trains! A hamster, a wig, and even a prosthetic leg are just a few of the 32,690 items left behind on Northern trains. Since July 2022, the train operator has been keeping tabs on all the lost stuff, and it turns out phones and laptops are the most common culprits.

Northern is reminding everyone to double-check their belongings before hopping off the train. Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly stations see the most lost items, but you can find forgotten treasures all over their network.

Some of the other odd things left behind include a cupboard, crutches, an ironing board, and even a hefty 10kg box of chicken breasts! One passenger even forgot their bike on the train while still wearing their helmet. Can you imagine?

Alex Hornby, the commercial and customer director, mentioned that losing something can be super stressful. They often remind folks to check for their stuff before leaving. Unattended bags can also cause security alerts, leading to delays.

When someone reports a lost item, the staff work hard to reunite them with their belongings, but it’s not always easy. If you ever leave something on a Northern train, check out their website for tips on what to do next.
