Springfield: A water line break has left residents at the Sunset Hills Apartments without running water this weekend. It’s been a real hassle for everyone living there.

One resident, Yesina Betsy, shared her frustration. She said her kids were washing dishes but couldn’t even rinse them off. That’s tough, especially when you rely on water for everything.

Betsy has lived there for years and mentioned that plumbing issues aren’t new. But this time, it really caught her off guard. She spoke with the maintenance guy, Bill, who told her they had to shut off the water as an emergency measure.

The apartment manager, Shellette Golden, said she called for help to fix the broken water main. Chris Moore, the Springfield Service Director, confirmed that the break happened in the courtyard of the complex.

Another resident, April Shinn, mentioned that management provided some water, but it wasn’t enough. She got just one gallon, which didn’t even flush her toilet. It’s frustrating, especially since it’s government-owned housing. You’d think they’d have better plans in place for emergencies like this.

Shinn also wished they had been notified ahead of time about the issue. Golden apologized to the residents, acknowledging the tough situation they’re in.

Moore said the city has tried to contact the apartment management to get the water back on but hasn’t had any luck reaching them. Golden plans to follow up with the city’s utilities department on Monday.

Moore reminded everyone that the city has a 24/7 maintenance number available, even on weekends. They’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

We’ll keep you updated on this situation as it develops.
