Waldo Mejia, accused of killing a Bronx teen, erupted in court, threatening officials and claiming to be with Satan.

Mejia, 29, was in court for his arraignment and started off calm but flipped out when a court officer touched his handcuffs. He yelled all sorts of crazy stuff, like, “Get ready to f–king suffer!” His defense lawyer just sighed, probably thinking, “Oh boy, here we go.”
Caleb was walking to school when he was attacked near E. 138th St. and Lincoln Ave. He was found with two stab wounds and sadly didn’t make it. Mejia is also facing charges for another stabbing incident from earlier this year.
After his outburst, the judge ordered a mental health evaluation for Mejia. He’s being held without bail until his next court date in January. Even as he was being led out, he was still shouting threats, saying he’d snap someone’s neck. It was a lot to take in.
Mejia has a history of violent behavior and mental health issues, which the NYPD has documented. Just a couple of months before Caleb’s death, he had another incident where he went nuts in his apartment building. It’s all pretty alarming, and it raises questions about how we handle people with severe mental health problems.
