Greenville: A shocking incident unfolded in North Carolina when a man named David Lever, 55, was arrested for a series of shootings that left three people dead. The twist? The son of two victims, an elderly couple, held him at gunpoint until the cops showed up.

Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance said that without the son’s brave action, there could have been more victims. It’s a real testament to how quickly things can escalate.

Authorities found out that Lever had over 50 firearms in his home. That’s a lot of firepower for one person. They also discovered more guns in the van he was driving when he went on his shooting spree around Greenville.

The victims were identified as Anthony Gribble, 80; Paula Gribble, 76; and Enrique Reyes, 64. It’s heartbreaking to think about what their families are going through right now.

Lever is facing three counts of murder. During his first court appearance, he reportedly had some choice words for the judge, which isn’t the best way to start things off.

He’s being held without bond and has a public defender now. The motive behind these tragic events is still unclear, and investigators are looking into any connections between Lever and the victims.

Reyes was believed to be the first victim. He was found after someone called 911 about a man lying in a driveway. It turns out he was a retired biology professor, which adds another layer of sadness to this story.

Interestingly, Lever lived less than half a mile from Reyes. Surveillance footage showed him coming and going around the time Reyes returned home from grocery shopping.

Just 20 minutes after leaving his house, Lever was seen firing shots from his van, but thankfully, no one was hurt in that incident.

Later, the Gribble family’s son called the police, reporting that his parents had been shot. He was holding Lever at gunpoint when deputies arrived, which led to Lever’s quick arrest.

Deputies also responded to another scene linked to Lever, where a house was shot into, but luckily, no one was home at the time.

Lever’s next court date is set for January 29. It’s a tragic situation that has shaken the community.
