Vanessa Bayer shares her experience of keeping her SNL casting a secret for a month

She was moving to New York City and couldn’t spill the beans to anyone, not even her parents. It was all because she heard some wild stories about past cast members who let the news slip too early.
Vanessa sat outside SNL creator Lorne Michaels’ office for nearly three hours, just waiting to hear if she got the gig. After the meeting, she had to keep quiet until NBC made the official announcement.
She finally told her parents and a couple of close friends, but she made them promise to keep it under wraps. It was tough for her, especially since she was so excited about the opportunity.
But guess what? The news leaked anyway before the official announcement! Even while she was getting ready for the show, her family had to deny it to everyone who asked.
Vanessa joined SNL in 2010 and was promoted to a repertory cast member in 2012. She left the show in 2017 but has kept busy with other acting gigs. She’s known for her hilarious impressions, like Rachel from Friends. What a journey!
