Washington: So, JD Vance, the Vice President-elect, recently made some strong comments about the Capitol riot. He said that people who were violent on January 6 shouldn’t get pardoned. This comes as Trump is hinting at using his clemency powers for some of those involved.

In a chat on “Fox News Sunday,” Vance made it clear that he thinks it’s pretty straightforward. He believes that those who protested peacefully deserve pardons, but if you were violent, then no way. He did mention there might be some tricky cases, though.

Since the riot, over 1,500 folks have faced federal charges. It was a chaotic scene that injured more than 100 police officers and forced lawmakers to hide while they were certifying Biden’s win.

Many who didn’t cause any trouble were charged with minor offenses for entering the Capitol. But others, like those who assaulted police, faced serious charges. Some leaders of extremist groups were even convicted of seditious conspiracy for trying to disrupt the transfer of power.

Vance also took to X to respond to critics who thought he wasn’t doing enough to help the rioters. He reassured them that he’s been on their side for years. He added that the president’s promise to review each case isn’t a backtrack; they genuinely care about those who might be unjustly imprisoned.
