The USDA has awarded over $14 million in grants to boost biofuel and clean energy initiatives across Wisconsin

Mequon: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is putting more than $14 million into Wisconsin to help with clean energy and biofuels. This funding is going to 42 different projects across 27 counties.
One of the big winners is JT Petroleum, a company in Mequon. They’re getting $5 million to boost their sales of renewable fuels like E15 gasoline. They plan to set up 19 ethanol storage tanks and 15 biodiesel tanks at their stations in Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. This should help them sell over 6 million more gallons of biofuel each year.
Then there’s Rosewood Dairy, known for Renard’s cheese in Algoma. They’ll receive $500,000 to install energy-efficient lighting, which is expected to cut their energy costs by about $18,000 a year, or around 60% of what they currently spend.
GRO Alliance, a seed supplier in Grant County, is also in on the action. They’re getting $438,500 to put in a solar electric array on their roof, which should save them about $45,000 a year in energy expenses.
