El Paso: US federal agents have stumbled upon a pretty high-tech “narco tunnel” that connects El Paso, Texas, to Juarez, Mexico. This tunnel isn’t just a hole in the ground; it’s got electricity and a ventilation system!

The tunnel is about 4 feet wide and 6 feet high, digging right into El Paso’s Boone Street storm-drain system, which is super close to the border. Some shocking footage shows how it stretches beneath the border, used by smugglers to move people and drugs back and forth.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is on the case, looking into who built and used this underground passage. They think it was made in the last year. HSI’s El Paso Special Agent in Charge, Jason Stevens, mentioned that these criminal organizations think they can sneak by undetected, but this discovery is a big hit to their operations.

Border Patrol Chief Anthony Good praised the agents who found the tunnel after they removed a metal plate covering its entry point. They even found bags belonging to the tunnel operators inside. Good emphasized that they’re dedicated to investigating these dangerous activities and bringing those responsible to justice.

This tunnel discovery comes on the heels of other smuggling tunnels being found, including one in Arizona that was still being built. US and Mexican officials are working together to tackle these narco tunnels. The largest known drug tunnel was found back in 2020, stretching three-quarters of a mile between Tijuana and San Diego, and it even had a rail system!
