Winfield schools are assessing the effects of a recent PowerSchool cyberattack on student data

Last week, they found out that PowerSchool had a data breach that happened between December 19 and 23. This breach involved student data, which is pretty concerning.
Schools like Andover, Buhler, Haysville, Rose Hill, and Winfield are all in the mix here. On Tuesday, Winfield USD 465 sent out a letter to staff and families updating them on the situation.
Superintendent Tricia Reiser mentioned that the breach did impact their district’s data. Thankfully, their IT team is on it, working closely with PowerSchool to sort things out.
Reiser also pointed out that they had already set up two-step authentication and encrypted all passwords, which is a relief. They’ve locked down sensitive info to keep it safe from any further unauthorized access.
She reminded everyone that we need to keep an eye on our accounts for any suspicious activity, especially in times like these. PowerSchool became aware of the breach on December 28 and is now working with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to investigate further.
