Chicago: So, here’s the scoop. A United Airlines flight had to turn back after hitting a coyote on the runway. It was a Boeing 737 Max, and it was supposed to head to Phoenix.

The plane took off from O’Hare Airport but had to circle back about 40 minutes later. The FAA confirmed that the aircraft struck a coyote during takeoff, which caused some minor damage to the nose gear.

United Airlines said everyone on board—167 passengers and six crew members—was safe, and there were no injuries reported. The flight took off normally, climbing to about 6,000 feet before making that U-turn.

Air traffic control was ready for the plane’s return, and it landed without any issues. Interestingly, the same plane was back in the air just four hours later.

Wildlife strikes are a growing concern for airlines, especially since quieter planes are making it easier for animals to get too close. The FAA noted that wildlife strikes have increased a lot in recent years, so it’s something airports are keeping an eye on.
