Ukraine has executed its biggest strike yet on Russian military sites, targeting key facilities across the border
The Ukrainian military drone unit, the 14th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment, targeted the Engels-2 airbase, which is home to Russia’s Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers. They also hit an oil storage facility that fuels these bombers, located about 400 miles into Russia in the Saratov region. This was actually the second strike on this site in less than a week, and it caused a fire.
The 14th Regiment announced that they completed a multi-day operation aimed at reducing the enemy’s strategic aviation capabilities. They also targeted a chemical plant in Seltso, in Russia’s Bryansk region, destroying two anti-aircraft systems. This facility is known for producing artillery and rocket ammunition, along with parts for cruise missiles.
In a tweet, the 14th Long-Range Aviation Regiment confirmed they successfully hit the Engels-2 military airfield, which is crucial for Russia’s air operations. Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces used drones to distract Russian air defenses before launching missiles at the site, a tactic they used in a previous attack as well.
During this extensive operation, they also struck the Saratov Oil Refinery and the Kazanorgsintez Plant, causing fires at both locations. Ukraine has vowed to keep targeting facilities that supply Russia with military resources.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed they shot down nearly 150 drones outside the conflict zone. They mentioned the attack in Bryansk and noted that Ukraine fired US-provided tactical ballistic missiles, but didn’t give specifics on other locations.
These strikes are part of Ukraine’s ongoing cross-border attacks, aiming to disrupt Russia’s military and energy infrastructure as the conflict continues. It shows Ukraine’s capability to reach deep into Russian territory, using both locally made and Western-supplied weapons.
