Eric Olshan resigns as U.S. Attorney for Western Pennsylvania after less than two years in office, effective Sunday at midnight.

He’s been in the role for less than two years. Olshan expressed gratitude for the chance to work with a dedicated team committed to justice for over three million residents in the area. He thanked President Biden and several senators for their support.
Olshan was nominated in March 2023 and confirmed by the Senate in June. During his time, he focused on serious issues like violent crime and drug trafficking. His office also tackled scams targeting vulnerable folks, including an international lottery scam aimed at the elderly.
One of the significant cases he handled was the prosecution of Robert Bowers, the man responsible for the tragic Tree of Life synagogue shooting in 2018. Bowers was sentenced to death just last August.
Beyond the courtroom, Olshan was active in the community, supporting initiatives like United Against Hate and Pittsburgh Pride. After he leaves, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti will step in as Acting U.S. Attorney.
