Renard Spivey, a former bailiff, shares his emotional story after being accused of his wife’s murder in a recent interview.
It all went down on July 28, 2019. The cops showed up at their home and found his wife, Patricia, dead in a closet. She had multiple gunshot wounds, and Renard had a bullet in his leg. He claimed they were arguing and tussling over his gun when it accidentally went off. But the police weren’t buying it.
They thought it was odd that a big guy like Renard, who’s 6’3” and weighs about 290 pounds, would struggle with his much smaller wife. Plus, how does a gun accidentally fire multiple times? So, they charged him with murder. A former prosecutor even said the multiple shots raised a lot of eyebrows.
In his first interview, Renard opened up about that night. He said they were having a quiet evening until Patricia confronted him about possibly cheating. He denied it, but things escalated. He tried to kiss her goodnight, but she wasn’t having it.
Curious about what was on her phone, he grabbed it when he thought she was asleep. Suddenly, she appeared with his gun, demanding her phone back. Renard got scared when he saw her finger on the trigger and tried to wrestle the gun away. That’s when it went off, hitting both of them.
He called 911, desperately trying to save her while dealing with his own injury. Sadly, Patricia was pronounced dead at the scene. Renard was taken to the hospital, but he didn’t talk to detectives right away because his lawyer advised against it.
After a long wait, his trial finally started in November 2023. His lawyers argued it was an accident, and Renard even took the stand to defend himself. The jury deliberated for 12 hours over two days before coming back with a not guilty verdict. Renard was overwhelmed with emotion, falling to the floor in tears. What a rollercoaster of a story!
